Heartburn Home Remedies that Really Work

Man with acid reflux

If you suffer heartburn, you know how horrible the burning bile can be as it comes up through your chest and into your throat.

No doubt when this happens, you reach for antacid tablets, unaware that using them only stimulates your stomach to create more stomach acid. I know, I learned this the hard way.

I used to go through bottles of antacid pills every week.  And still I would often wake up at night with that horrible acid in my chest and my throat.  I knew I had to do something different and that is when I started talking to some folks who used natural home cures for different ailments.

Now that might sound hokey to some people, or even like voodoo — but when you start comparing medications and surgery to natural heartburn home remedies, you can see how superior the natural remedies really are.

I can attest that I found success using the same natural cures that other folks have been using successfully for years — without side effects!

I am listing just a few here.  When you review them, you will begin to understand how and why they work so well:

Drink More Water

It has been established that drinking 8 to 10 glasses of fresh water each day will reduce heartburn.

Drinking lots of water is a way of detoxifying your system.  Seriously.  If you drink eight to ten glasses of water a day, and watch your diet (see the next point), you may eliminate acid reflux.

Believe it or not, water is one of the most important heartburn home remedies.

A Healthful Diet

The best diet for acid reflux is a diet low in fat but filled with healthy complex carbohydrates that are fiber rich.  Foods such as leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits, raw nuts and seeds, and lien proteins.

Eliminate foods heavy in fats, including all greasy foods.

Let me illustrate why this is important, using one of my personal examples.

I love to go to the movies.  Trouble is, part of the pleasure going to a movie is munching on hot, buttered popcorn. Except these days they don’t even use butter, they use flavored grease.  I know that does not sound appetizing, but that’s what it is.

Anyway, I learned that anytime I ate “buttered” movie popcorn, I was sure to awaken that night with the all-so-familiar jolt caused by that burning, acidic feeling in my chest and throat.  You know the panic.

When I started on my “heartburn no more” regime, I started watching the foods I ate.  Sure enough, any time I ate something that was greasy, an attack was triggered.  The first time I noticed it was right after a trip to the movies where  I lost my will power and ate “buttered” popcorn.

Seriously, your diet is probably number one in importance of all the heartburn home remedies.

Papaya – A Natural Enzyme

I found I had less heartburn episodes when my diet included the natural enzymes which let me digest my food more quickly and efficiently.

One great source of these natural enzymes is papaya.

I enjoy a slice of fresh papaya as dessert.  But if you don’t like papaya, and some folks don’t, you can purchase chewable papaya capsules, which also contain the valuable enzymes. Take a couple of capsules after a meal to assist in the digestive process.

I also include sugar-free natural yogurt (with live culture) in my diet.  I love yogurt, so I just eat unflavored, plain yogurt and never even make a sour face as I’m eating.  It is also a big help in digestion.

Proper digestion is an important factor when considering heartburn home remedies.  If you digest your food you won’t have it coming back up in the form of acid reflux, or heartburn.

Can you see how drinking water, eating fruits and vegetables, cutting way back on unhealthy fats and greasy foods, and eating papaya or natural yogurt will all help with your digestive process?

It might sound overly-simple, but these are the cornerstone of all natural heartburn home remedies.

Ginger / Ginger Root – A Natural Remedy for Digestion

Like papaya, I find when I take ginger after a meal it is soothing to my stomach and aids in digestion.

Also like papaya, ginger may be eaten fresh (used in a recipe or ground and sprinkled on your food), or you may purchase ginger in capsule forms.

Some folks even make a ginger tea.  I must admit I am not a big fan of ginger tea, but maybe you are.  I enjoy using ginger as a spice in some dishes, and, of course, I take ginger capsules.

Teas – Soothing Green and Herbal Teas

Both green tea and herbal teas such as chamomile, ginger and peppermint help soothe the stomach and aid in digestion.  I like green tea, but you might experiment by drinking a different type of tea after each meal until you find one or two you like.

I think you’ll find that most folks who use effective heartburn home remedies drink tea daily.  I find my green tea very soothing and I really enjoy it.

Drop Bad Habits like Smoking and Drinking

If you are a smoker, I sympathize.  However, let’s face it, people who smoke during or immediately after a meal are just asking for an attack of heartburn.

Excessive alcohol consumption will also irritate the stomach and the esophagus.

I used to drink fairly heavily until I gave it up all together about 15 years ago.  I traveled a great deal on my job and had a lot of time alone.  Anyway, back then I did not have a problem with heartburn — except on those nights when I had several drinks during the evening.

If you are a drinker, you know the feeling.  I quit use alcohol for other reasons.  But one of the many benefits turned out to be that it never triggered my heartburn.

Again, what you put in your body make up the most import component of all the natural heartburn home remedies.

Start Exercising

Am I beginning to sound like your doctor?  Diet and exercise; diet and exercise.

Well, it is a fact that exercise is another great way to increase your digestion.

I used to hate to exercise and I am still no exercise guru.  But I must admit that I discovered early on that the days I kept my appointment at the gym or on the treadmill I was much less prone to heartburn episodes.

And think about this:  Exercise and proper diet will improve your overall health.  Heartburn is not a normal condition for a healthy body.  If you improve your general health, you will be much less likely to develop heartburn.

Diet and exercise are both important and should be included in anyone’s list of natural heartburn home remedies.

I am glad to report that I have been heartburn free for a long time now.  I tried many home remedies for heartburn and discovered some that really worked for me, and others that had little effect.

I have enclosed a link to what I believe is the best resource for natural heartburn home remedies.  What you will find there is the program that I follow today.  It is packaged as a simple ebook you can immediately download.  It is rather inexpensive — the last time I looked it had been marked down from, I believe $60, to just under $40, but I don’t know how long that will last.  Anyway, I am sure it has saved me thousands of dollars on doctor bills and prescription medications.

I like this resource because it didn’t just hand me tools — it outlined a program that showed me how to use the tools — and I personally needed that.

The product claims to clear up acid reflux in about two days.  Maybe for some people — but for me, honestly, it was closer to two weeks.  The good news is it definitely worked!

You might want to give it a look, but whatever you decide, I hope you take the time to consider the danger you are in if you suffer with serious acid reflux or heartburn.  I also hope you will seriously consider the benefits of using at least a couple of the natural heartburn home remedies I have outlined here.

At least give them a chance.

They are much safer than prescription medications or surgery.  Check with your doctor and I am confident he or she will agree when you explain to them what you want to do and convince them you are sincere in wanting to do it.

I wish you the very best. I sincerely hope you enjoy good health and a long and happy life.
